Groundhog Student Job-Shadow Day
Are you wondering what you’re going to do after you graduate? Do you know what you want to "be" when you grow up? If you’ve chosen to advance your education beyond high school, do you know what skills to obtain to get that "dream career"? Do you have interest in more than one field and can’t decide for sure which way to go? Do you wonder what actually takes place in any given day within a career field that you’re thinking about?
If you answered YES to any of these, then Groundhog Student Job-Shadow Day is for you!
By being someone’s "shadow" for a day, you get to experience what they do, for real, on a day-to-day basis! You will spend 4-8 hours with business partners recruited by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce who will allow you to participate in their company’s work so you may experience a typical work day. The business partner will share valuable information with you about their jobs, experiences, education, likes & dislikes about career, etc. The goal is for you to learn as much as possible about a career field by participating, observing, listening, and asking questions.
TO get more information, check out our website. (Counselor's page on http://www.lindaleeagles.org/). There will be a parent consent form, student application, and student informational!
Deadline for application is November 15th! Job Shadow Day is February 2, 2011.

Changes to Apply Texas Application
Once your application has been submitted, you cannot change any information on your application through ApplyTexas. You will need to contact the university or universities to which you applied to give them any corrected or missing information. The ApplyTexas Help Desk will not be able to help you with this type of request. Be sure to include your full name and application ID number on all pages of all documents that you send to the university.
None of the changes you make to your application through the receiving university will be reflected on the copy of your application that resides in the ApplyTexas site. Once submitted, the information on your ApplyTexas application cannot be changed. This means that your ApplyTexas application view will still contain the original information you submitted. More importantly, if you copy a submitted application that contains mistakes or incomplete information, you will need to correct the information in any copied application you create.

You are alloted 2 absences per year to do campus visits. You must get the form from the front office attendance clerk, Mrs. Brooks. You need to make sure that a representative from the school you are vsiiting signs this form, and you return it immediately.
Your Enligh teacher went over some suggestions for before, during, adn after a college visit. Yes, you MUST DO WORK BEFORE AND AFTER. It takes research and planning on your part, so get after it!

Dual Credit - Transcript from TJC
Once you graduate, official transcripts will be available for you to retrieve and send to your corresponding schools. However, if your admission counselor at the college of your choice suggests you submit an unofficial (though this is NOT usually the case), you can request an unofficail copy.
TJC will not release them to you directly, but they can mail it with a letter stating why it's unofficial to the scool indicated by the student. Again, once you graduate, you will need to have your official HS transcript sent to TJC, and then request TJC to send an official college transcript to your college.
Here is the link for requesting transcripts:

Hover on Schools, Lindale High School; then click on Counselors.
There will be an option that pops up for Helpful Website. You can go there, but that's just resources. My information will be on the Counselors page.

Dual Credit Students
Ok, I want to clarify a specific issue over this so EVERYONE is on the same page. When you get a question in an application regarding 'attending a college or institution," etc.... you must read VERY CAREFULLY!!!
First issue I want to address,
When applying....You are a freshman! (There are very, very, very few exceptions where this is not true.) If the question on the application asks if you have or are currently attending any other college or educational institution (and it stops there), you need to say 'NO.' Even though you are enrolled in courses through TJC, you are STILL our student and are not considered a college student. If, however, the question clearly mentions being enrolled in dual credit, you may then say yes. For example in the question on the Apply Texas application.....
"Please list ALL colleges or universities you have attended or are attending, including college-level correspondenceThe answer is yes because it specifically includes dual credit courses. You are safe.... say, yes, and enter TJC's name. If you ever doubt, as me!!!!
Secondly,
We will be registering for the second semester courses in December. I suggest you re-look at your degree plans and see if the courses are required.
Thirdly,
ANOTHER TOOL where useful information can be found is in your TJC email system. They send out reminders on deadlines, etc (though there are quite a few you can disregard), but they also send invitations to honor societies, etc., that might be good opportuniteis and look good on resumes. To retrieve your email, visit
https://apacheaccess.tjc.edu/ .... or go to the TJC home page and click on the "apache access" button at the bottom. You use your "a-number" and birthdate to login with.
Finally,
You need to be in active pursuit of scholarships (as well as finalizing applications :))!! There are TONS and TONS out there. There are plenty on the website (hover over High School and click on Counselors) to keep you busy for now, and you will continue receiving more and more....... but you should also begin WEARING out the financial aid offices at the shcools of your choice(s). They have websites that give many specific ones. GET ON IT!
I love you all.... remember that!! You need to be in panic mode right now! :)
